The answer is...Hernshead near the Lake.Laughing

Hernshead

defaultOn the northwestern rim of the Lake in Central Park is this wooded peninsula called "Hernshead" .The designers Olmsted and Vaux felt it resembled the head of a  heron(called a "hern" by the British)

It is located at West Side between 75th and 76th Streets.Hernshead is a rocky opening overlooking the Lake.

In the fall,Hernshead visitors can admire a playful display of fall colors on nearby trees and shrubs reflecting in the Lake.

I would like to go there!Smile

The Lake

At the heart of Cenral Park is the Lake.Created out of a large swamp, the 22-are Lake was intended to provide boating in the summer and ice-skating in the winter.Opened for skating in 1858 at a time when the winters were praticularly harsh,it was said to accommodate up to 40,000 visitors on one day alone.Until 1950 when it was closed. The Lake was returned to nature and the wildlife residents who now dominate it no matter what the season.

Hernshead Boat Landing

Heding  down an incline on the far western rim of the Lake, and with the Hernshead Peninsula visible not far off,is the Hernshesd Boat Landing.

Rowing On The Lake

default

In the spring and summer and for a month in autumn rowboats cross the watery vista at times appearing inimicial to the total Lake experience.Visitors enjoyed this pastime since the Park opened in the 19th Century when"passage boats"carrying 12 passangers at a time would take visitors around the Lake, stopping for departures and arrivals at 6 boat landings located along the shore of the Lake.Four of those boat landing still exist.

Today rowing on the Lake is an popular as ever.it is romantic experience for those in search of romance @}-->-- and a form of outdoor relaxation and entretainment.

6)After you have seen a preformance in the nearby Delacorte Theater, where are you going to 'stop and smell the roses',and not only roses but also columbine, primrose, wormwood, and many more plants of which the Bard wrote?

I can smell roses in my grden Laughing but also in Shakespeare Garden.

The Shakespeare Garden is Central Park's only rock garden.Inaugurated in 1916 on the 300th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, this cottage rock garden features plants and flowers that replicate those in the garden at the poet's home in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Bronze plaques with the quotations from the bard's great masterpieces line the winding paths addind a true bit of poetry to any romantic stroll through this spiritual space.

The main garden path goes through the central garden area and continues east until it reaches the summit of the rock.on its slope to the norht of the cottage another path leads along a flower lined route to the Delacorte Theater.

Shakespeare Garden remains a heaven for those seeking the solitude of a truly sanctified and peaceful experience.Shakespeare Garden is also known as a sanctuary for birds so many Park visitors bring their binoculars here to search for unusual species.
